Newt Gingrich said something I can't argue with.
Gingrich pointed Wednesday to a proposal he made early in his career, which would have allowed American residents of the moon to petition for statehood when they reached a population of 13,000. Sounds like a solid plan to me. I know one thing he never figured was where they would put the 51st star on the flag. Or it would be 50 stars and a Moon. That would end up bugging him.

Cleaning out The Frig (Veggies Beware)
I made #Vegan Lentil soup last night that probably did not have enough Lentils. We were out of most staples so I sauteed finely chopped celery, carrots, and diakon in a little olive oil. Added some Braggs and one vegetable Bullion cube that was in the cabinet. I believe I added a little brown sugar, curry powder, pepper and stirred it all with a stalk of lemon grass. Close enough for Clean out the...

If Evolution failed
If humans had never existed, what would the earth look like now? My guess is it would have a lot of trees. And those trees would get together and mess everything up. Probably emitting too much CO2 into the air. But who would be around the regulate the trees. One day a tree would die in New Jersey and wash out to sea and land in South Carolina. Where they would have slave trees. I would like to...

My Humble Opinion -Thou shall not
“I have from an early age abjured the use of meat, and the time will come when men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they now look upon the murder of men.” ― Leonardo da Vinci I love this quote so much, however I have to take it one step farther. War is murder and we as a society seem pretty split on this issue. There are many people who view war as the right thing to do. Which of...

Tofu Banh Mi
One of the best dishes we had ever made. We pretty much followed the recipe exactly. (We did double up on the marinade). We had hoped for leftovers but that did not happen. I can see us repeating this often. It appears the peppers would be over whelming however they were not. This ingredient list looks long for a sandwich, but it’s just a list of all the yummy fillers…and their marinades. Tofu...

Panic Now -Snow Flake may Reach Ground
The valley floor could see brief a wintry mix Sunday, heavier precipitation could result in accumulation, KGW forecaster Jim Donovan said. Daytime highs would bein the mid-30s, so the snow would not likely stick around, he said. By all means Everybody head to the supermarket now and buy Salt, Milk, Beer and Firelogs. Put tobogan on front porch in case car doesn’t work. Tune into the...

A Perfect Hour
Saturday I had a perfect run, It was an eight mile sustained hard run on a crisp moon lit night listening to the Tragically Hip and The Decemberists on the MP3 player. The legs felt great, the evening sky was perfect amd the music was amazing. Running down Glison from 39th (Ceasar Chevez to some) can be just magical. Great view of the city and a downhill where you can let loose. Sometimes running...

6:00 AM
I am not a morning person. I abhor getting up at 6:00 in the morning. Today was an early morning meeting so I was up at 530 and it was the usual morning meeting with the Big Black Bear Pup whining from his cage. After the meeting, I left the BBBP out and he is so happy in the morning. Well he is happy all the time. These early mornings are not so bad. I get to spend time with the family. It is a...

Best Beer of 2011 -2012 Nice to Meet You.
Yesterday I ran a half marathon with my wife. it was her first half marathon. We mapped out a course and ran it. Who needs entry fees. It was all about her however it was fun for me just watching her confidence never falter. She mapped out the end of the course so that we finished at the Moon and Sixpence. It is an easy walk home, I ordered a pilsner for her and and HopStoopid for myself. And of...

Running, @NPR, BadCows
Today I went for a 7 mile run and it was a perfect night to run and one of those days where I run a moderate distance with added effort. I rarely run with headphones but tonight i ran listening to NPR. It was interesting to hear that the US now exports more gasoline (not pure petroleum) than it actually uses. We use less gas than we did in 2001 even after adding 30 million people. There...

Who Rules the House -GreatBigBearPup
I was walking around the house and noticed we now have shoes on many a table. It seems to be related to the fact that our great big bear pup Cooper likes to eat shoes. Hope he never exchanges stories with our beagle. She once ate a door. Took the great big bear pup for a walk and he wanted to randomly sit on my shoes. Walking with a puppy is kind of fun because everybody talks to you. Well it is...

A Word of Warning -Catalytic Converters
i was listening to an analysis of the current day South Korea and much of their economy is either the barter system or the trading and export of illegal goods. How are we that much different. We have large firms stealing from their clients, we have small guys dealing drugs and people stealing precious metals just to get by or possibly buy another illegal product. Hell it is big business in our...

31 Mile Stroll in the Park
I always want to run the entire length of Forest. Forest Park, in all it’s beauty. sits above the city and menaces me. I think Forest Park is the crown jewel of Portland. So, today was our run across Forest Park. I believe this is probably my 10th or 11th time doing this. But it had been 4 years since the last time I did it. We had planned to start at 930 this morning but we ended up...

1-800-PSU-WTF?
This here is almost unbelievable. This lawyer sounds like he has a Penn State Education. I once had a finance class at Penn State and we had 30 classes. I made it to seven and managed to get an A. Sounds like the law school is the exact same thing. ======================== BELLEFONTE, Pa. (AP) — A lawyer for a former Penn State assistant football coach accused of molesting boys says he...

Bruised Egos of Journalists
Sometimes columnists want to be the story. @JohnCanzanoBFT and @jwquick feel slighted that Mondays Press Conference was a sham. I believe it is more about the jounalists having their egos bruised. I generally like both of their work they do around the Blazers but this story is not about them being duped. In sports we are duped all the time. Brandon Roy’s retirement is good for Brandon Roy...

Peanuts the New Crab
In the shell are so darn delicious. It is the Perfect Vegan snack, But nuts are flawed. What do we do with the shells. They always go into the compost bin in our house. Never checked how they decompose. I am curious who discovered you could eat them. The food i miss when I became a Vegan are crab and clams. Peanuts have become them. Well they are one of them. Peanuts are the crabs of the vegetable...

Great there may be another Planet Like Earth
Great they have found a planet that may be similar to the earth. Kudos to the brilliant minds who deduced this, I can not even begin to comprehend how long is a light year. I’ll bet they didn’t do the human thing and evolve to a point of destroying their own planet. That would be too human. Hell, they are aliens. As far as we know they may be discovering fire right now. Or maybe their...

Vegan and Son go to Killer Burger
I guess our youngest sometimes wishes he did not live in a Vegan Household. So today, his eyes lit up when I said we were going to Killer Burger. Killer Burger just opened up in the Hollywood district in a spot hat has seen many restaurants fail. I think the last one was a Peruvian cafe. Killer Burger apparently sells to die for Burgers. To die for is a terrible play on word, as most of the...

Over the Rhine - Alladin Theatre
I have seen this group so many times in the past. @OverTheRhine is a group that I have always loved. I can honestly say I never know their song titles. I just know what I like.  Last night the songs I never heard blew me away. Infamous Love Song was a great history of as the bands lead couple. Only God Can Save us now was stunning. The story that introduced the song was touching and funny....

Writing Love Stories
#NaNoWriMo. 26600 words this month, I am really starting to love telling the stories. As i write I am getting more curious about every character. I am curious why my main character has figured out why he can not communicate with a partner. I doubt my main character.

Vegan Love Stories
Today I cleaned up the back room somewhat and took all the beer bottles back to @WholeFields I then gathered all the other receipts that were in the kitchen and went and returned the bottles. I got a credit for 6.05 which I promptly brought 2 pounds of various mushrooms for a dish I am making tomorrow. So 4 weeeks of returning bottles is equal to the mushrooms in our pasta dinner for tomorrow. ...

Heard through endorphins
Love the Sunday night music show on OPB. I was driving home from my soccer game last night and that is when music sounds better. You know, heard through endorphins. Penn State. When i was an Undergrad
I remember remember being out in the streets after the Phillies had won a world series. Well the memory is not exactly Chrystal clear. Time verifies the expanding past. Students were crazy after an event that warranted celebration. I am pretty sure there were arrests.I remember trucks could not make it through town. It was a crazy scene on a positive night. What I am pretty sure of right now...

@PortlandPilots Congrats to the Pilot Woman’s soccer team. I’ll bet OSU hates drawing them in the first round. FSU would be the 2nd round. If my memory is correct they already beat FSU this year. NaNoWriMo
#NaNoWriMo I am continuing where i left off last year and I am in a bit of a writing and re reading frenzy. Took awhile to connect again with my characters. I like the cold winter months to write and since my story takes place in the middle of a snowstorm it makes the writing a little easier. My favourite character is Opal Byers who was a chain smoking wine drinking woman living on welfare and...

Vegans Murder Less Often
Today my wife and I were talking about our last meals for some random reason. I love when we have conversations such as this. She described a Vegan meal as her last meal. I believe she said she would have Papaya salad. I said to her, “come on you would probably have a steak with blue cheese” and she insisted she would not. I sat there and thought for awhile and inanely said,...

Fall is the Greatest Season of All (Random stuff)
Love the crisp air, and the seasonal vegetables. But a subtle sadness sets in because soccer season is over, But that can be erased because indoor season has started up and it is plain fun to be playing. Our Team is off to a 1 and 2 start and I no longer have trouble playing a full 46 minues. We even played a double header last Sunday. So there still is soccer. With movement and fitness comes...

Iraq Out
On This Day I am Happy for once at something a politician has done. I have always supported our President but in general I have been dissapointed. Today it was announced we are bringing our troops home. I have done no analysis of this at all. The only thing that matters to me is that in someway one less person will die. Human life is valuable as every soldier is a father, a son, a friend, a...

Music Nerd
That i must be. We were listening to @kboo last night, the jazz station is on in the laundry room, classical in the area where I work and OPB in the upstairs bathroom. This town has no good commercial radio stations.  Kink is tolerable and KPOG is okay at times but certainly not for long periods of time. I simply do not like commercials.
