Over the Rhine - Alladin Theatre
I have seen this group so many times in the past. @OverTheRhine is a group that I have always loved. I can honestly say I never know their song titles. I just know what I like. Last night the songs I never heard blew me away. Infamous Love Song was a great history of as the bands lead couple. Only God Can Save us now was stunning. The story that introduced the song was touching and funny. Undammed was simply stunning. Their new cd Long Surrender I have only heard once and that was on the way home from the concert.
I did not know 8 of the first 11 songs and we were happy to listen to their words and music. That is the mark of a great band. That is when you want to hear the new stuff.
The encore of Hallelujah was stunning. I must admit there are too many bands covering this song. Born (one of my favourites) blew me away as usual. I prefer the songs where Linford plays Piano. The influence of the Cowboy Junkies could be heard through out this 90 minute set. Love the harmonica additions to familar songs.
90 minutes of pure escape and joy. The only regret I had is they played nothing from Snow Angels. I like hearing those songs this time of year.
The opener were the Milk Carton kids. They were great story tellers and the music fit the night just perfectly.
